Pecan trees are great shade tress, they have deep roots and as a bonus you get great tasting trests. Stuart trees are the predomint variety in the large commercial groves. Desirable is a good variety as well. I recommend both varieties. When purchasing pecan trees always get a grafted pecan tree. Seed grown pecan trees rarely produce pecans as good as the original pecan tree.I prefer smaller pecan trees since pecan trees have a deep tap root and transplant shock is much greater for large pecan trees.
