| This is the rubber tape discussed in the grafting section. I prefer this tape because it provides a good watertight wrap with plenty of elasticity. There is no need to coat it with wax plastic or any other material. | I have not used this material however many of the papers on grafting recommend it. I am not sure if it is watertight and needs to be covered with a water tight material. | |||||
| The older methods of coating the graft with wax to provide a watertight material are no longer commonly used. I use this wax to coat the ends of my scion wood when I cut it. This wax is too sticky to use straight so I dilute it with parafin. Straight parafin is too brittle and falls off. | This is a basic grafting knife. There are several other styles shown under GRAFTING SUPPLIES below. | |||||
| Good sharp bypass pruners are a must. This set is one of the better type made and will last a lifetime | A pole pruner is a must for collecting scion wood. The scion wood should be the most vigorous last years growth. This is usually at the top of the tree. | |||||
| This is the most comprehensive book I have found on Pecan Cultivars. It discusses nut size, color, % halves, shell thickness, insect and disease resistance, pollination, nut shape, and the history of the cultivar. The first few pages are viewable at the link to the left. | GRAFTING SUPPLIES | This link has many other supplies not listed on this page. | ||||
